Indian Institute of Technology Bhilai celebrated the National Mathematics Day on 22nd December 2019 to commemorate the birth anniversary of great mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan.
The event was chaired by Prof. Rajat Moona, Director, IIT Bhilai; co-chaired by Prof. P.D. Srivastava, Visiting Professor and Head, Dept. of Mathematics; coordinated by Mrs. Rajni Moona, Outreach Coordinator (Honorary) and organized by the faculty members of Mathematics Department. The event witnessed the presence of Prof. Ravindranathan Thangadurai, well- known expert in number theory, from Harish-Chandra Research Institute, Allahabad who delivered the keynote address on the topic “Srinivasa Ramanujan’s upper bound for the divisor function”. The event was also graced by the presence of Dr. Vikas Bist (Dept. of Mathematics, Panjab University, Chandigarh) who delivered a talk on “Pi and Ramanujan”.
The event was organized for the students of school as well as college level, who interacted with the experts and gained valuable knowledge about mathematics. Quiz was also organized for the participants which was based on Life and History of well-known mathematicians together with some questions on general mathematical concepts.
The event ended with prize distribution to the winners of the quiz, followed by felicitation of the guests with memento, and vote of thanks.
