Prof Peter Comba
PhD from the Université de Neuchâtel
Distinguished Professor, IIT Bhilai

Short bio :

Peter Comba (born in 1953) obtained a diploma in chemistry and in chemical education from the ETH Zürich and a PhD from the Université de Neuchâtel with Werner Marty. He made preparative, structural and spectroscopic studies on transition metal hexamine cage compounds with Alan Sargeson at the Australian National University in Canberra and NMR studies on titanyl and decavanadate with André Merbach at the University of Lausanne before setting up his own research group at the University of Basel (1986-1992) and then in Heidelberg. He is interested in fundamental transition metal coordination chemistry, spectroscopy as well as theoretical and computational inorganic chemistry, with current projects in bioinorganic and medicinal inorganic chemistry (oxygen activation by high-valent nonheme iron compounds, Cu II chemistry of cyclic pseudo-octapeptides in cells, radiopharmaceutical chemistry, MRI contrast agents), molecular magnetism (theory, magnetism and spectroscopy of oligonuclear transition metal and lanthanide complexes) and molecular catalysis (CO2 reduction). He has had various administrative duties, including vice-rector of Heidelberg University, and currently is a member of the academic advisory counsel of Heidelberg University, of the executive board of the Max Planck School Matter to Life and of the industry on campus catalysis lab CaRLa.
