Dr. Raghavender Medishetty
Assistant Professor
Head of Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering
Indian Institute of Technology Bhilai

It is my privileged to greet you as the head of the Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering (MSME) department at IIT Bhilai. IIT Bhilai is situated in one of the mineral-rich states, Chhattisgarh, next to one of the oldest steel plants in India, SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant (SAIL-BSP). This department is leading several technological developments and their commercialization. In addition, we are highly committed to training the students both as leading entrepreneurs and equipped with job-ready skills.

The department offers various academic programs, including BTech, BTech (honors), MTech, and Ph.D. The students also could complete dual degree programs through conversion. The curriculum of these programs has been developed in view of the current technological status and future demands. These programs provide a solid foundation while covering topics like steel and alloy making as well as advanced materials like electronic, smart, ceramic, energy, materials, and polymers.

This department also offers a platform for extensive research activity spanning various research areas with high-caliber faculty members who worked/graduated from world-class institutes. These inter-departmental faculty members have interdisciplinary research with international exposure establishing state-of-art technologies in metallurgical engineering, materials science, polymers, robotics, micro-/nanorobots, etc. With solid collaborations with SAIL-BSP, the students will be exposed to the latest industrial technologies and processes. This helps the students to have better skills for immediate job opportunities and entrepreneurship.
